Edibles are a great (and tasty) way to consume your cannabis medicine. Not only do they come in a variety of flavors, but they are also discreet and have long-lasting effects. Edibles tend to be potent and last longer in the system, so it’s important to consume them safely so that you don’t consume too much THC in one sitting. Here are three tips for safely consuming edibles!
Consuming Edibles: Start Low
When you are first starting with edibles, start with a very low dose. Edibles come in a variety of strengths, varying anywhere from 5mg to an upwards of 40 or 50mg. It’s always suggested to start at a very low dose to see how it affects you and then increase it gradually from there. The great thing about Remember: You can always take more, but you can’t go back once you’ve already taken a large dose.
Be Patient
The unique thing about edibles is that they have to be digested in your system before you begin to feel the effects. With that being said, give your edibles time to digest before you consume more. It is best to wait at least two hours (some people will feel effects sooner and some may feel them even later than this) after consuming an edible to truly gauge their strength and effects. Patience is key with edibles, as you don’t want to consume too large of an amount and have them all start to affect you at once.
Don’t Compare Your Tolerance
It’s important not to compare your tolerance to that of others. Everyone’s body reacts differently to THC, so while one person may be able to consume a 50mg edible with no issue, someone else can have an uncomfortable experience with the same dosage. When taking edibles, gauge your individual tolerance. As mentioned earlier, it’s best to start low and go slow when figuring out what your tolerance is.
